Wine Enthusiast features Mazza and the Lake Erie AVA

In just the past two months, Wine Enthusiast has put a spotlight on Mazza’s people and wines, as well as the historic wine-producing region that we’re proud to call home.

In April, the magazine published “In the Sprawling Lake Erie AVA, Variety Is the Spice of Life” featuring comments from Mazza’s VP & General Manager, Mario Mazza. The article and AVA guide spoke Lake Erie’s unique attributes:

“The moderation from the lake, along with warming temperatures due to climate change, means that growers are having success with an increasing number of varieties. Historically planted with native and hybrid grapes, vinifera plantings are on the rise, especially Riesling, Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc.”

Only a few weeks later, Mazza Chautauqua Cellars is a raising a glass to four distinct recognitions in Wine Enthusiast’s May issue:

2020 Riesling (Nutt Road Vineyard) received 90 point rating and a “Best Buy” designation.

2019 Merlot also received 90 point rating.

2021 Pinot Grigio and 2021 Chardonnay both received “Best Buy” designations.
