Winemaker with Robert Mazza, Inc. (North East, PA)
Responsibilities: Manage and direct winemaking operations including vintage operations, fruit receival and processing, ferment management, fining, aging, barreling, filtration, blending, preparation for bottling, and bottling. Develop detailed winemaking strategies and plans for various varieties and products across entire portfolio of brands, collections, and products. Oversees and manages all winemaking supply and packaging material procurement. Manage wine making and cellar staff. Maintain harvest, fermentation, fining, filtration, blending, bottling records in Winemaker’s Database software. Ensure all records meet or exceed needs to comply with both state and federal reporting requirements. Develop and implement capital projects in conjunction with ownership to optimize winemaking operations and upgrades equipment as appropriate.
Requirements: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Enology or related field. Position requires four years of post-bachelor’s experience which must include some experience with each of the following: Management of bottling/packaging lines running a minimum of 50,000 cases/year including measurement and control of productivity indicators; Oversight of grape and wine analyses, monitoring of fermentations, manage the vinification plan, control aroma and phenolic compounds in wine; Monitoring of phenological stages of vineyards, evaluation and monitoring of disease and pest control activities, ensuring application of chemicals does not affect overall wine products; Crushing, pressing equipment; Pulsair/pneumatage; Rotary Drum Filtration; Cross Flow filtration; Velcorin doser; Rotary gravity fill bottling, and cork and stelvin applications; Experience with quality based programs including HACCP, BRC; and Winemaking and Production related software: SAP.
