Description

Before Patio Season (and our Sunday Sesh series) officially begin at our Westfield location, we’re bringing music by Gem City Revival to our (warmer, indoor) barrel room. Celebrate the coming Spring by enjoying live music, some Mazza wine, a glass of Five & 20 beer, and food from our friends at Bird.

Old songs with new soul. New songs with old soul. Gem City Revival is Abby Badach Doyle (fiddle, vocals); Pat Doyle (guitar, vocals); and Ang Phillips (guitar, vocals); a new acoustic trio keeping honest, rootsy, Americana music alive in Erie, PA.

Abby Badach Doyle, a classically trained violinist and former concertmaster, grew up simultaneously practicing etudes and learning to harmonize along with her parents’ Simon and Garfunkel albums. She has performed and recorded locally with The Heliotropes since 2010, and as a member of Erie Insurance’s award-winning corporate band Above All in Volume, she played Nashville’s legendary Exit/In and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. As Abby’s love and study of traditional bluegrass fiddle grew, so did her cowgirl boot collection – and she’s devoting the next phase of her musical career to developing them both.

Pat Doyle, a proud southpaw, grew up in Butler County playing his dad’s old acoustic strung upside down and backwards. Taking inspiration from the greats like Lindsey Buckingham and James Taylor, he taught himself to play long before the era of YouTube tutorials. Now armed with his own genuine lefty instrument, Pat has performed in clubs and living rooms across Western PA.

Ang Phillips, a Mercyhurst alumna and North East native, is over the moon to be making her musical debut with two good friends back in her hometown. In nearly 10 years of traveling around the U.S., Korea and Japan, Ang devoted her free time to meticulous study of the guitar, and singing along to Emmylou Harris and Gillian Welch records kept her connected to all she loved about home.

Happenstance made them friends, but hootenannies made them a band. Together, these young – but not gettin’ any younger – musicians bring a striking combination of talent, chemistry and deep respect for the greats in the folk and alt-country traditions they so love.

Check them out on Facebook and stay tuned for our Sunday Sesh Series beginning in May!
