Supporting Farmers

Keep your friends close, and your farmers even closer.

While our winemaking team has hailed from the farthest-reaching wine regions in the world, when it comes to sourcing grapes, we are lucky enough to be able to stick to our own backyard. Get to know a few of our local farmers.

Moorhead Farms

North East, PA

Moorhead Farms was strictly a Concord growing operation until the mid-1960s when they branched out and planted a few vinifera and some French hybrids. Today, more than 20 wine grape varieties are grown here, plus a number of table grapes. Grapes from this local farm can be found in many of our wines, including Riesling, Grüner Veltliner, Merlot, Pinot Gris, Muscat, and Traminette. We also use their Chardonnay and Riesling grapes in many of our sparkling wines.

Szklenski Farms

Harborcreek, PA

Szklenski Farms was founded in 1970 and is a family-run operation to this day. They, like us, are a multi-generational operation and in fact, our families grew up in the region together. Long-time juice grape growers, they branched out to cultivate vinifera and hybrid wine grapes in the 2000s and today provide immaculately cultivated Cabernet Franc and Riesling for our winemakers.

William Semelka Vineyards

North East, PA

Like many farmers in the region, the Semelka family goes back generations. Originally a prime source of Concord grapes for Welch’s, they diversified into vinifera and hybrid wine grapes in the early 2000s, consulting with a handful of local winemakers (ours included!) as they did so. They continue to add acreage year over year to their carefully tended-to vineyards, and have emerged as a top tier provider of vinifera grapes, including Chambourcin, Chardonnay, Regent, Pinot Gris, and Cabernet Franc.

Knight Vineyards

Ripley, NY

Similar to Semelka and Szklenski, Knight Vineyards is helmed by third-generation farmer, Andy Knight. Their vineyard evolved from growing primarily juice grapes to producing a robust variety of hybrids. We source Chambouricn, Muscat, and Cayuga from this New York vineyard.

Martini Vineyards

Penn Yan, NY

Martini Vineyards is situated on 100 acres overlooking Seneca Lake in New York’s Finger Lakes AVA. The proximity to the lake makes for a favorable microclimate for grape growing, cooler in the summer, and a few degrees above average temperatures during the winter. We primarily source Riesling and Pinot Gris from this sustainably-oriented operation, as well as Chardonnay when available.

Schultz Farms

North East, PA

Schultz Farms represents some of the larger plantings of hybrid grape varieties in the region. Alongside a thriving tree fruit crop, including apples, peaches, and pears, they are acutely attentive to their vines. We source Chambourcin and Valvin Muscat from Schultz, as well as a variety of red hybrids for our blends.
